The Story of Doc Lane's Veterinary Pharmacy
In 1911, Andrew Jackson Lane graduated from Max Morris School of Pharmacy in Georgia and established Lane Drug Store in Franklin, Georgia. His customers fondly nicknamed him “Doc” Lane. Back then there were no brand-name drugs available, so Doc Lane had to compound every human and animal drug he dispensed.
In 1933, Andrew Jackson Lane Jr. graduated from Mercer School of Pharmacy in Georgia and established his pharmacy in Powder Springs, Georgia. Like his father before him, he was also nicknamed “Doc” Lane by his customers as he continued the family tradition of compounding human and animal drugs. By the 1960’s his daughter Anne had developed a love for pharmacy and decided to become a compounding pharmacist just like her father and grandfather.
In 1972, Anne Lane Gresham graduated from Mercer School of Pharmacy and continued the Lane family tradition of compounding equine drugs and medications. After a successful career which spanned four decades, including the complete establishment and management of compounding pharmacies at two prestigious Lexington, Kentucky equine veterinary hospitals, in 2012 Anne established Doc Lane’s Veterinary Pharmacy as a tribute to the Lane family’s 100+ year history of compounding equine drugs and medications.
About Our Pharmacy
Our pharmacy is an 8,000 square-foot state-of-the-art USP<800> facility designed and built specifically for equine veterinary compounding. We are “horse-people” and we know horses – inside and out. We are PCAB Accredited, which means our facility, formulas, sources of supply, and processes have been rigorously tested and certified to insure our compounded medications are pure, safe, and of the highest quality. We procure our raw materials only from American human-drug suppliers which test the materials in the United States in FDA-inspected laboratories. Our pharmacists and technicians have been trained and certified in sterile compounding, and we constantly test and monitor our finished compounds for purity, strength, and efficacy. Our compounds are the best available to equine veterinarians nationwide.
